Printer Queues
For the methods print@me and direct printing, suitable drivers must be set up for the devices. With many device manufacturers, one printer driver can be used for several devices. This means you can also use the driver of a color copier to control b/w devices or printers. This has the advantage that ideally only a single printer driver needs to be installed and shared with all users. This driver then applies to all devices in the IQ4docs system.
What is unusual for the user about this method is that the device in the driver may be different from the one on which they pick up the print or on which it is printed directly. In addition, settings can be made in the driver that the output device might not be able to fulfill at all (punching, stapling, large format...) In this case, Smart Routing comes into play.
Queues shared on a print server (for print@me or direct printing) can be connected by IQ4docs automatically per workstation, see Connecting printer queues automatically.

Smart Routing refers to the intelligent forwarding of a direct print job. The print job can be redirected automatically in the following cases (this can, however, be changed in the respective print workflow)
- The direct printer is switched off (or is not accessible from the server). while the print job is being sent. In this case, the print job can be picked up at a print@me device.
- The direct printer cannot meet the requirements of the print job. In this case, the print job cannot be output. It can be picked up at any print@me device that does meet the requirements.

The printer queues can be installed locally on the workstation or shared on a server. This is freely selectable and mixable. Local queues and shared queues can be present simultaneously in the system. For the installation, only the connection must be set correctly, i.e. the IQ4docs PrintService that is to receive the print jobs and the corresponding port assigned to the workflow must be set as the destination, see Network Ports.
